The Lewisburg YMCA is thrilled to once again offer Rock Steady Boxing for Parkinson’s disease.  Rock Steady Boxing is a non-contact boxing program designed specifically for people with Parkinson’s disease. It aims to improve quality of life through exercises that enhance balance, strength, agility, and overall fitness.

Anyone diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, along with their care partners, can participate in Rock Steady Boxing. Our program is tailored to accommodate individuals at various stages of the disease, ensuring a safe and effective workout.

To get started, register for the program and complete the forms below. A physician’s release is required, and an initial intake evaluation will need to be conducted before you start the program. That will help determine the best class level for you based on your fitness and symptom progression.

The next session is:

Every Wednesday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Lewisburg YMCA from January 8 – January 29, 2025.

Hi! I’m Renee Pfirman, a physical therapist with a specialized interest in working with people with Parkinson’s Disease. I grew up in the Hudson Valley of New York and graduated from Misericordia University with my doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2013. In October of 2023 my husband and I moved back to the Lewisburg region, where we are excited to plant some roots and raise our daughter near family. We have 3 dogs, and love music, traveling and exploring the outdoors.

My grandfather was diagnosed with Parkinson’s when I was a child, so growing up I witnessed the challenges and obstacles that individuals and caretakers face. Studies have proven how beneficial a proper exercise routine can be in managing symptoms and slowing down disease progression. It has become my passion to help those battling the disease fight back. I have training in LSVT BIG, PWR! and am a Rock Steady Boxing coach. I have always had an interest in working with the neuro population in the clinic and am excited to be able to offer group classes as well as 1:1 personalized training here at the Lewisburg YMCA.
