Middlecreek Area Community YMCA Child Care

The Y nurtures the potential of every child with a variety of programs that provide tools and resources for the whole family.

The Middlecreek Area Community Y offers the following childcare programs.

Infant – Preschool

We provide care for the early years through preschool and beyond. We serve children 6 weeks through 12 years old. Our classrooms have an “Under the Water” theme. Please review the information about each program below.

Infant Program is for children in the infant room for children 6 weeks through 1.5 years old (Guppies). The Early Years Program fosters the children’s needs and is based on the children’s schedules. At this age we focus on tummy time, reaching, grasping, parallel play, back and forth play skills, beginning social skills, beginning social and emotional recognition and independent eating skills. We love to get the little ones outside, at least once a day (weather permitting), and we introduce them to a variety of art and sensory activities.

Toddler Program is for children 1.5 to 3 years old (Turtles). The Young Preschool Program introduces the children to a semi-structured schedule while also allowing free play. At this age we focus on learning a routine, beginning sharing skills, building social and emotional awareness, introducing social skills, potty-training, and encouraging independence.

Preschool Program is for children 3 to 5 years old (Dolphins). The Preschool Program gives children the opportunity to build their social skills and learn through play. At this age we focus on social and emotional development skills, reciprocal play, independence, and kindergarten skills.

Creative Curriculum:

Our Early Years through Preschool Programs use the Creative Curriculum Program from Teaching Strategies Co. and the Pennsylvania Early Learning Standards. The Creative Curriculum Program is a research-based and play-based curriculum offering children child-initiated learning focusing on developmentally appropriate goals and objectives within four main categories: Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Cognitive Development, and Language Development.

Within the classrooms you will notice the variety of learning centers offered to children such as: Blocks, Art, Dramatic Play, Library, Science & Discovery, Math, Tabletop Games & Fine Motor, Music & Movement, Sand & Water (Touch Table) or any combination of these based on age and room arrangement.

Observation & Assessments:

We complete 45-day observations on all new children using the Ages and Stages Questionnaire and the Ages and Stages Social Emotional Questionnaire.

Teachers complete monthly observations of the children in their class based on the early learning standards chosen and developmental goals set for the children.

We complete the OUNCE Assessment on younger children, and Work Sampling Assessment on preschoolers in the Spring and Fall.

All assessments and observations are used to create learning goals for the children. We share all observations and assessments with parents during parent-teacher conferences to discuss concerns, areas of improvement and set goals for the children with the parent’s input.

School Aged Child Care

K – 5th Grade
Before School Program Hours: 6am-8am

The after-school program offers snack, homework help, socialization, engaging gross-motor and other activities.

We offer a Rising Readers Program during the after-school to enhance and encourage all children to read. We work with children one-on-one and in small groups with children. We also allow time for the children to read independently for 15 minutes every day.
